On This Labour Day
Take a moment to acknowledge the people in your life who do labour to put food on the table, to pay the rent; there are many such people in my present and past who made the opportunities I’ve had possible; this day is for them, and it was won on the back of countless individuals who weren’t given those chances. It’s our responsibility to ensure everyone here has that chance, those opportunities, people of colour, refugees, gay, straight, trans, or white like me, born into privilege. The ideal of the United States is that we protect all people, of any background and offer the opportunity to achieve anything regardless of their origins or identification. Labour Day is the reminder that we have yet to live up to that ideal, but still can.
