Independent Bookstore Day

Today is Independent Bookstore Day; we don’t have a true indie in Rockford, though Toad Hall comes close. As most of you know, I worked at an indie for almost two years, and while the pay was um… less than ideal (especially given rent in Boston), it was the best job I’ve ever had. I had the opportunity to know customers on a first-name basis, know what they liked to read and make recommendations attuned to their interests. Today and in general, please support your local bookstores. If you’re in the Boston area, support Newtonville Books, Brookline Booksmith and Porter Square Books — all great institutions I spent a great deal of time at when living there.

  1. I love independent bookstores too. We have one just up the road that I support, here in Kingston.
