Welcome Bernie!

With Bernie Sanders‘s announcement that he is, in fact, running for president, the Democratic side of the 2016 race finally has some non-foundation or email-related intrigue. Does Sen. Sanders have a chance? Almost certainly not. Does he bring the truest progressive voice to a nomination fight since former Rep. Dennis Kucinich? Yes. I had the privilege of meeting Sen. Sanders while a student in neighboring New Hampshire (he was Rep. Sanders then), and if you can get past the thick Brooklyn accent and formidable eyebrows, he’s a very nice person. I’m pleased to see him running if only for his ability to push Hillary leftward. I’m probably going to end up a Hillary supporter (as she’s undoubtedly qualified and it’s high time for a woman to lead this country), but I’m also extremely glad that someone will challenge her from the left. Granted, if I had my way, it’d be Sen. Warren (D-MA), but Bernie is more than capable of moving Hillary on issues like income inequality, climate change, labor law, single-payer, etc.

A (self-described) “democratic socialist” like Bernie is someone I could vote for.

One Response to “Welcome Bernie!”

  1. Yes, we were pleased to see Bernie enter the fray, even if he doesn’t have a huge chance. He will move Hillary in the right direction, I hope!
