“Traditional Marriage” …and the Problems Therewith

The concept of “traditional marriage” is one often cited by anti-Marriage Equality activists. Yet what is “traditional marriage”? Is it one in which the woman is considered the property of her husband? In which the male exercises all fiduciary and disciplinary authority? If so, that hardly seems a “tradition” worth maintaining. I personally don’t think the state should offer incentives to two individuals making a personal decision that has nothing to do with the business of governance, but if the state are to, there’s no legal justification for restricting those benefits to opposite-sex couples. Love, in the end, is all.
